Mix-Up Monday: House Shoes

Some people have house shoes for guests (www.delaishop.info)

When you go to a house in Germany the odds are you will be asked to take off your shoes. Additionally, you may be given house shoes (slippers) to wear while you are visiting.

Removing your shoes when visiting someone at home is not unheard of in the USA but often it depends on what culture the person most closely associates with. Even when asked to take off her shoes in the USA, she has definitely never been offered house shoes. It makes sense though. Take off your shoes and your feet may be cold...why not wear house shoes?

We do not have house shoes to give guests but we do have our own for when we are home and our feet get cold. His are serious house shoes, hers are more for fun :)

One thing is for sure, make sure your socks match (and are clean) before visiting anyone in Germany at home!

    We are a shoes off at the door house for ourselves and our guests.We also like to wear slippers in the house. I have really serious leather slippers and my partner has a few very comfy sheepskin slippers. As yet we don't have slippers for guests, but plan to leave a basket of clean ones conveniently at the door as soon as we can get to Ikea. Its wet and cold here for much of the year, which makes owning and wearing slippers absolutely essential.

    I didn't know Ikea sold house shows. I need to check that out! I think a lot of people guests at our last apartment which was completely covered in cold tile. Luckily, this apartment is all hardwood and much warmer on the feet, but it would still be nice to be able to offer slippers to visitors.

    Where did you get the marvelous slippers holder from? I can't find delaishop.info anywhere. Its a great little thing to hang by the door for guests. Thanks

    In Germany you can buy the house shoe holders almost anywhere, even the one euro shop. I think you might be able to find some good choices on Amazon. It is quite a handy invention.

    It is indeed a great invention. My fiancee wants to make one on her sewing machine but cant find a pattern. Thanks for the amazon tip. I will have a look on amazon.co.uk
